Martin Nievera will sing Philippine National Anthem in Pacquiao-Hatton fight and I really really thought that it would be Ms. Leah Salonga. Why? Well, every since I can recall, it has always been a female singer who’ve always sang the country’s nationa anthem.

Here’s what we read:

Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao announced in an interview with GMA News that he has chosen Concert King Martin Nievera to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his fight against Britain’s Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3, Philippine time) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Filipinos have always been curious about who would sing “Lupang Hinirang” in Pacquiao fights. We anticipate the singer’s interpretation of our National Anthem.

Some of the singers who had the distinction of singing the Philippine National Anthem during Pacquiao’s fights are Karylle, Kyla, Geneva Cruz, Jasmine Villegas, and Regine Velasquez.

Aside from Martin, international Filipino performer Lea Salonga also expressed her willingness to sing the Philippine National Anthem. But it was Martin that Manny chose.
