What a gruesome thing to name an all female band, huh? Well, I say it’s a perfect name for a rock band and they are one of the best in what they do.

Anyway, this is a South by Southwest update post and it’s all about Cannival Cheerleader.. Here’s what we read:

The lineup for the SXSW 2009 is slowly building, with a recent announcement naming Cannibal Cheerleader favorites like Ben Harper, the Courteneers, Beach House, White Lies, and the awesome Ra Ra Riot.

Marian Rivera on Karylle’s “Mona Lisa Smile”

There is a recent issue regarding the love team of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes… Apparently Marian Rivera is pregnant and Dingdong Dantes is the father… This issue really affected the Philippine Marimar. She made a public comment about it. (You may try searching the vidio on Yutube or Utube)

Anyway, a story can be found in PEP about Marian Rivera’s reaction on Karylle’s “Mona Lisa Smile” that she gave during an interview when asked if Marian Rivera is pregnant:

Last to arrive si Marian Rivera for the second grand press conference of Desperadas 2, one of the two entries of Regal Entertainment in the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival, at noon today, December 15, at Imperial Palace Suites.

Directed by Joel Lamangan, almost kumpleto ang cast na dumating including her four “sisters”: Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado, and Ogie Alcasid; pati na rin ang mga leading men nilang sina Jay-R, Christian Vasquez, TJ Trinidad, Will Devaughn, at Carlo Guevara.

Naka-cast pa rin ang paa ni Marian at doon muna siya tumuloy sa doctor niya para ayusin ito. Pag-upo ni Marian na katabi si Rufa Mae, isang unnoticed incident ang nangyari. Katapat niya ang isa sa mga beteranong manunulat na bago pa lang dumating si Marian ay may galit nang nagkukuwento sa isang insidente patungkol sa pagiging “plastikada” raw ni Marian. Nangako ang manunulat na sasabihin niya ito nang harapan sa aktres kung sakaling dumating ito.

Nagkataon naman na pagdating ni Marian, sa harap mismo ng manunulat siya napaupo sa presidential table. Nang nagkaroon sila ng eye contact, tuwirang sinabi ng manunulat, “Plastikada ka!” bago ito tumayo.

Nagulat din si Rufa Mae na nakasaksi sa pangyayari. Pero dahil nasa presidential table pa sila at tuluy-tuloy ang question-and-answer portion, hindi sila makatayo at makapagtanong-tanong.

Sa interview ni Karylle sa The Buzz kahapon, December 14, nag-smile lang ang ex-girlfriend ni Dingdong Dantes sa panghuling tanong ni Boy Abunda kung buntis ba si Marian. Kaya ang huling tanong kanina kay Marian sa presscon ay kung buntis nga ba siya, gaya ng mga nasusulat. (Click here to read related article .)

Ngumiti muna si Marian at dinaan sa patawa ang unang statement niya. “Puwede bang smile na lang din ang isagot ko?” aniya.

Pagkuwa’y sumagot siya nang harapan, “Hindi po ako buntis.”

Patuloy niya, “Na-hurt ako sa kanya [Karylle] dahil kung ako ang tatanungin ng ganoong katanungan, ang isasagot ko, ‘Wala po akong alam diyan’ o ‘Wala po ako sa posisyon na sumagot diyan.’ Nagkaroon ng malisya ang pag smile-smile niya. Inaamin ko, na-hurt ako.”

Ni minsan ay hindi binanggit ni Marian ang pangalan ni Karylle. Puro “niya” at “siya” lang ang naging pagtawag niya rito.

Dito na nagsimulang gumaralgal ang boses ni Marian at namula ang mata.

“Na-offend talaga ako,” sabi niya. “Hindi naman ako tanga at lalong hindi na ako bata para magkamali ng ganoon na magpabuntis. Marami pa akong gustong mangyari sa career ko at kung mangyayari man yun, ako na ang magsasabi sa inyo. Isa pa, kung mag-boyfriend kami ni Dingdong, ako ang unang aamin dahil lahat naman ng naging boyfriend ko, naging proud ako.”

Dagdag niya, “Makakasagot naman siya [Karylle] dahil may alam naman siya. Sana hindi niya na lang idinaan sa pa-smile-smile.”

Mas lalong uminit ang interview nang mag-comment ang isang beteranong manunulat sa microphone na baka kaya naisip ito ni Karylle ay dahil baka raw may nangyayari na sa kanila ni Dingdong bago pa sila nagkahiwalay.

Napag-react ang napakaraming press sa statement na ito kung kaya’t mabilisang pinutol ang question-and-answer. Si Marian na ang dinumog ng press.

Everyone found out that Marky Cielo, at age 20 died in his bed last week (same time Manny Pacquiao won with Oscar Dela Hoya).

Since then, up to today, many people are searching the internet trying to find out what Marky Cielo’s cause of death was?

THere’s even some who searched for “Marky Cielo Scandal”. Come on people.. .don’t you have respect for the dead? He’s resting give it a rest too.

There’s no scandal.. Marky’s a good boy and everyone of his closest (and not so close friends) attested to that.

I was browsing and looking for reactions in the recently concluded Manny Pacquiao fight when I read from Eligio.org that the GMA 7′s Starstruck Winner, Marky Cielo dies in his bed at dawn today!

Following his link to PEP.PH, we read that he died in his sleep early this morning. They found it out at 6am. tsk tsk.. what I lost.. And just this Friday I saw him live in Unang Hirit’s 9th Anniversary!

PEP (Philippine Entertainment portal) received a confirmed report earlier this afternoon, December 7, that young actor Marky Cielo died at dawn today. He was 20 years old.

Doctors are still investigating the cause of Marky’s death, but an acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis is also being considered.

According to a PEP source, Marky’s mother went up to his room in their house in Antipolo City around 6 a.m. to wake him up for a charity event. But he never woke up.

In the late afternoon, PEP editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon was able to interview Marky’s father, Mr. Bobby Cielo, briefly. Mr. Cielo, who is now separated from Marky’s mother, narrated to PEP that Marky’s mother and sister Marcel Andrea knocked down Marky’s door when no answer came from him. They found Marky lying on the floor.

They immediately rushed Marky to the Antipolo Doctors Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival at around 10 a.m. today.

When asked how they are taking Marky’s death, Mr. Cielo said, “Okay lang, mabigat.”

Marky was a product of GMA-7′s StarStruck Batch 3, where he won as the Ultimate Sole Survivor. He was the first Igorot from Baguio City to join the popular reality-based artista search. Among his batchmates were Iwa Moto, Jackie Rice, and Gian Carlo.

After winning in StarStruck, he appeared in several GMA-7 shows which included Encantadia, Fantastikids, Bakekang, Asian Treasures, Boys Nxt Door, Kaputol ng Isang Awit, and Codename: Asero. But he was best known as Zaido Green in Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan.

He was also a mainstay of the musical-variety show SOP and in the primetime series La Lola.

Marky, who is also known for his dancing prowess, grew up in Butuan City but his family moved to the north.

He was a first year Architecture student in St. Louis University in Baguio City when he joined StarStruck. His father revealed that Marky was planning to go back to school next year.

At press time, Marky’s remains is still at the morgue of St. Peter Memorial Life Plan Chapel in Antipolo City. Then, it will be brought to their house in Mission Hills, also in Antipolo, where a wake will be held for two days. After this, Marky’s family plans to bring the young actor’s remains to Bontoc, Mountain Province, where he grew up.

Phoemela Baranda next to be eliminated in “Pinoy Fear Factor”


Shucks! Sayang naman.. akala ko pa naman mananalo itong si Phoemela Baranda sa reality tv show ng ABS CBN na Pinoy Fear Factor.. She was eliminated apparently..

TV host Phoemela Baranda becomes the third “eliminado” as she loses on final stunt of “tersera ronda de eliminacion” of Pinoy Fear Factor: Argentina, South America on Monday, December 1.

Phoem, the TV host’s popular nickname in showbiz, followed the two other eliminated “participante,” basketball hunk Ram Sagad and sexy model Gail Nicolas.

The Star Patroller of TV Patrol failed to win the “Atravesando de Vidrios” or “bicycle stunt, where she and two other “pump squad” members Jommy Teotico and Jose Sarasola had to smash into five sheets of glasses while riding a bicycle. She was not able to pass even one glass while Jommy and Jose managed to break one and five glasses, respectively.

With this ending, Phoem promised herself, “Pag-uwi ko, mag-aaral akong mag-swimming, mag-bike, at mag-aalaga ako ng ahas.”

She lost the chance to win the first “El Ultimo Participante” title, house and lot, and the P2 million cash prize.

Despite this, the showbiz talk show host is happy that she was able to prove that she’s not only a celebrity, but she also has the guts to do some stunts similar to that of Pinoy Fear Factor. “Sobrang disappointed ako pero binigay ko naman ‘yong lahat ko and it was all worth it,” she said.

Meanwhile, the competition is getting tougher as the remaining “participantes” get to the “cuarta ronda de eliminacion.”

Jommy and Jose, together with the other pump squad members RJ Calipus and the new recruit Doc Elmer, plan to distract Manuel Chua, which they consider as the strongest challenger, in every stunt. While the lady “participantes” Janna Dominguez, LJ Moreno, and Savanah Lamsen vowed to defeat the men of Pinoy Fear Factor.

Catch more challenging stunts that were prepared to test the strength, courage, and even the intelligence of each “participante” from Monday to Friday on ABS-CBN before Eva Fonda. Also, watch the highlights of “Pinoy Fear Factor: Special Edition” on Studio 23 every Saturday at 7 p.m.

‘Cory, The Musical’

Who would have thought that doing a musical presentation about a country’s former President will be such a hit? Well, it is, according to ABC CBN’s news report.

Here’s what we read:

The first musical play about the Philippines’ former President Corazon Aquino, dubbed “Cory, The Musical” drew a huge crowd on its first and second night, November 29 and 30, at the Meralco Theatre in Quezon City.

The play was attended by Mrs. Aquino and her family. Spotted during the event were her son, Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, brother Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuanco, Cory supporters, friends, and former colleagues in politics.

According to Mrs. Lourdes “Bing” Pimentel, the show’s writer and producer, the musical is a gift to the former president for all the good things she has done for the country.

“It’s a gift of the nation to President Aquino,” Pimentel said.

The project was conceptualized and developed after Pimentel learned that Aquino was diagnosed to have a colon cancer.

“Alam niyo, ng nalaman ko personally na may cancer si former President Cory, I felt bad, and I wanted to do something for her. I can’t give her anything because she has everything. I have the gift of music composition, so I thought: why not a play? Kasi yung play ko dati na “Pag-Ibig sa Bayan” na pinanood niya, nagustuhan niya. So that’s why I came up with a play,” Pimentel said.

The musical features the life and works of Aquino from her teen years until she became the 11th president of the Philippines.

“We focused on Cory’s life as a mother, as a wife, and as a young girl hanggang naging president na siya,” Pimentel added.

Senator Noynoy invited the youth to watch the play so they will learn things that happened in the past and how her mother sacrificed for the country.

“Baka dito, mas madaling matanggap ng kabataan kung ano ang nangyari ng mga panahon na ‘yon, ano ang sakripisyong kailangan para sa mas nakakaraming kababayan. Kasi ang daming masasabi nating kalayaan o karapatan na tinatamasa nila ngayon na sabi nga sa ingles ay, taken for granted…Sana, ang mga kabtaan ay matutunan kung paano naipababa ang diktadurya noong araw,” he said.

“Yung nga kabataan kasi, sila ang magmamana ng ating kinabukasan at para maiwasan ang pagkakamali ng lumipas, bakit di natin tignan ang malagim na nakaraan,” Noynoy said.

Former Miss Saigon, Isay Alvarez plays the character of Cory, while Sherwyn Sozon plays the late former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino. Robert Sena takes the role of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos while Pinky Marquez plays Imelda Marcos.

The production is directed by Nestor Torre. It will have another show today, December 1, at Meralco Theatre.

It may not be the most talked about topic in pinoy showbiz, but it sure is worth it to post it here.
